Cuppi: Family Safety & Age Suitability
At Cuppi, we believe the home should be the private sanctuary of the digital world. Unlike traditional social platforms designed for public sharing and data harvesting, Cuppi is a closed-loop system built to keep your household’s internal life secure.
🛡️ Safety by Design: The Closed-Loop Model
Cuppi is fundamentally different from social media:
- No Public Discovery: There is no "Search" or "Discover" feature. No one can find your household or any users (including you and your children) unless you explicitly generate and share a private invite token to shareyuour household with another person.
- Invitation Only: Only the Household Owner (typically a parent or guardian) can invite new members.
- No Third-Party Tracking: We do not sell data to advertisers or use third-party trackers. A child’s activity inside Cuppi is never used to build a marketing profile. Anonymous usage tracking is also permanently disabled by default if the user is under 18.
👤 Role-Based Protection (Adult vs. Child)
When a minor joins a household, they are assigned a "Child" role. This role carries strict technical restrictions:
- Financial Privacy: Child accounts are blocked from accessing “Community“, “Budget” and “Receipts” features and certain functions of “Pets”.
- Administrative Lockdown: Minors cannot invite new members, delete the household, or change core security settings. E-mail and password changes need Owner or Adult authorisation.
- Transparency: All activity on the household feed is visible to the Household Owner, ensuring parents can maintain oversight of the digital environment.
📍 Data Minimisation for Minors
In accordance with the UK GDPR and the ICO Children’s Code, we practice strict data minimisation for users under 18:
- Limited Collection: We only collect the minimum data necessary to provide the service (e.g., a display name, date of birth and role).
- No Location Tracking: We do not track or store precise GPS movements of any user.
- Right to Erasure: Household Owners have the immediate power to remove a child’s account and all associated data from the household at any time.
🏛️ UK Regulatory Compliance
Cuppi is developed in the United Kingdom and is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (Registration: ZC129317). We have designed our interface and data protocols to align with the highest standards of the Age Appropriate Design Code.
👩🏫 Guidance for Parents
We recommend that the Household Owner role always be held by a parent or legal guardian. We encourage parents to use Cuppi as a tool for teaching digital responsibility, using the shared Home Feed as a safe "training ground" for digital communication within the safety of the family unit.
